The arts are more than a source of entertainment and pleasure; they are an exceptionally powerful tool for learning, as well. Studies show that music improves mathematical abilities. Dance enhances spatial awareness and motor skills. Drama promotes communication and provides emotional release. The visual arts encourage decision-making and nurture sensitivity, while creative writing increases verbal skills and engages imaginative effort.

Art Escapes workshops: The Arts for All Art Escapes program is a school-based art workshop series held in local special education classrooms aimed at enhancing classroom goals through art, music, dance, and drama. The six- to eight-week workshops are typically held in local school districts.
In each classroom where Arts for All artists are working, the students do not receive regular ongoing art instruction. Arts for All artists provided adapted instruction in visual art, pottery, creative movement, dance and drama.
Seasonal Community Dances: These fun dances are for teens and adults with disabilities and are typically held around Halloween, Christmas/New Year’s, Valentine’s Day and in the spring. We party at the Elk’s Lodge, 625 Bay St., Traverse City. The $5 admission covers snacks and music. Dances are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The 2016-17 schedule is here.
